NITE presents The Underground: a musical theatre production. From 24th of August till September 3rd in the Amsterdamse Bostheater. The Underground is a theatre show that feels like a pop concert, transforming the Bostheater into a dazzling visual circus where entertainment and tragedy are never far off. This NITE performance, directed by Guy Weizman, is a rollercoaster of dance, music, and theatre. Hop in and enjoy the ride.

Please note: The Underground is Dutch spoken.

Guy Weizman: “The performance was inspired by Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s Notes from the Underground, a monologue by a man who’s taken plenty of hits in his life and finally decided to quit the system and ensconce himself in his house instead: his ‘underground’. Rik van den Bos ran with that theme and penned a phenomenal, topical show about someone who can’t accept the way the world works, who can’t manage to play by the rules, and takes their spiritual riches and slinks off to the margins.”

https://vimeo.com/706908738

Prepare to be blown away. The Underground is a gritty, witty, tragic production from Guy Weizman and the NITE ensemble. After winning the director’s award for Salam and garnering rave reviews with Brave New World 2.0 and Before/After, theatre, dance, film and music lovers now have Weizman’s next production to look forward to: The Underground, starring Sanne den Hartogh as lead singer in the band.

Credits
Directed by Guy Weizman
Choreography: Roni Haver
Book: Rik van den Bos
Dramaturgy: Robbert van Heuven
Composer: Brendan Faegre
Set design: Ascon de Nijs
Costumes: Maison the Faux
Cast: Sanne den Hartogh, Camilo Chapela, Tatiana Matveeva, Bram de Laere, Nathalie Alexandra Torres Kinard aka “Strange”, Michael Ques Zaalman
Musicians: Niels Meliefste, Dirge Seçil Kuran, Joost Geevers, Berber Heerema, Isa Goldschmeding, Noa Eyl, Yanna Pelser
Sound design: Peter Zwart
Musical dramaturgy: David Dramm
Assistant director: Ludy Golstein

The Underground is a collaboration between Noord Nederlands Toneel, Club Guy & Roni, Slagwerk Den Haag, and Asko|Schönberg.
