Ahmad Abdulwahab, the initiator of Bab Ad-Daar, experienced first-hand the feeling of a new door opening for him:
“As a Syrian newcomer to Groningen, I decided to start dancing. I wanted to find a way to improve the dance skills I had developed before I came to the Netherlands. But I was at home more than I would have liked and I didn’t know where to start. So I literally knocked on the door of the Machinefabriek – home to NITE and Club Guy & Roni – and asked if they could help me develop my performance skills.
I got the idea to open the doors for other newcomers as well and got a permanent place as project leader participation at NITE and Club Guy & Roni. After this, the ball started rolling and Bab Ad-Daar was created in collaboration with Guy Weizman and 25 volunteers.
In the end, Bab Ad-Daar has grown enormously with two employees and more than 150 newcomers who have built a great community together.”
